The Coathangers

April 25, 2009

I became aware of this band a little while ago because they’ve done some touring with Young Widows, who I like an awful lot. The two bands sound nothing alike, though. The Coathangers are four ladies from Atlanta who play really simple garage rock. For the most part they’re not chaotic and screechy like Mika Miko or The Vivian Girls, but they do remind me somewhat of The Stolen Minks or The Mummies.

I have a hard time disliking a band who have a song called “Nestle In My Boobies.” ( “It’s so comfortable!”)

What do you think?

It’s fun stuff. Kind of like the Stolen Minks, for sure.

“I have a hard time disliking a band who have a song called ‘Nestle In My Boobies.'” I must agree. Plus, the first thirty seconds or so of the “Stop, Stomp, Stomping” video has some Voltron referencing going on (I assume…blue space villain dispatching a monster in a coffin), and that’s a-ok.
