Relevant To Your Interests #005

April 30, 2009
  • It looks like Backstreet Records in Saint John threw a great sidewalk party a few weeks back for Record Store Day 2009. Here’s some video of Albert County’s own The Strawmen bringing the cowpunk. Full disclosure: we‘re putting on an all ages show in June with these guys and it’s going to be a good time.
  • According to this post on HalifaxLocals, the Eric’s Trip double album tribute Songs for Eric has shipped for those of us who ordered limited edition physical copies. This is good news. Even better news is that there are a couple left for anyone who wasn’t quite on-the-ball enough to request one before the March 24th deadline. Hooray!
  • Speaking of new releases, Dog Day‘s Concentration is finally out this week for realz. If you’re going to be in Halifax this Friday, they’re having a CD release party at Reflections with their friends The Memories Attack and The Got To Get Got. We’re big fans of all of those bands! If you’re not in Halifax this Friday, the band are touring to Vancouver and back in the next couple of months. Check their MySpace for more info about when they’ll be in your town.
  • Your friends at Fat Wreck Chords have just announced they’re dropping all their CD prices to $10 in the US.
  • Last week I told you Dinosaur Jr. posted the single from their upcoming album Farm for free download. This week there’s another track from the album streaming for free on Pitchfork. You can listen to “I Want You To Know” while you wait for the full length’s official release on June 23rd.
  • I like Brian Posehn a lot. He directed this video for neo-hair metal enthusiasts Steel Panther‘s “Death To All But Metal.” You’re interested because hair metal is funny, Brian Poshen’s used to be on Mr. Show with Bob and David from time to time, and Sarah Silverman shows up near the end of this. It’s win all around.
  • In other metal news, Slayer and Megadeth are touring (western) Canada together this summer. Party on, Slayer! Party on, Megadeth!
  • Propaghandi: Live at the BBC? Yeah, apparently.
  • Vancouver’s Japandroids had to cancel a chunk of their tour because one of them had to have emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer. Don’t believe me? Welp, here’s a post-op photo.
  • The Capitol Hill Block Party is happening in Seattle on July 24th and 25th. The profits go to Home Alive (the anti-violence organization which formed in response to Mia Zapata‘s murder) and The Vera Project, which is a non-profit all ages venue and recording space. AND. The lineup includes Sonic Youth, The Jesus Lizard, Mika Miko, and The Thermals. I live on the wrong fucking coast.
