Relevant To Your Interests #008

May 28, 2009
  • A week or two ago, a story surfaced about a promoter in Ottawa who received a hefty ($2,000) bill from SOCAN for royalty fees related to shows he’d put on over the last three years. I always figured if your shows didn’t make money, SOCAN would leave you alone, but this is apparently not the case at all. Luckily it looks like he convinced them to waive some of the back fees and was able to raise some money through his blog and a benefit show, but this story should strike fear into the hearts of indie promoters nation-wide.
  • Gooseberry Records, the folks who brought you Rescued from Boredom: A Tribute to the SuperFriendz and Songs for Eric: A Tribute To Eric’s Trip have more tribute albums in the works, including homages to MurdeRecords’s back catalogue and Sloan.
  • In the latest edition of VBS.tv’s Soft Focus, Ian Svenonius sits down with Jello Biafra. They’re both completely insane and it’s something to behold. Part 1 is below, and parts 2 through 4 are here.
