Relevant To Your Interests #010

  • The fine folks at CFMH in Saint John are in the midst of their 3rd annual Artists On Vinyl fundraising event. Local artists create pieces based on/made from old LPs, donate them to the station, who hosts a silent auction happening right now at Bean Books at 122 Germain Street (next to Backstreet Records). The auction continues until this Saturday night, when there will be a closing party at the store with DJ Hawk and foodstuffs brought to you by the Fat Walrus Catering Co. (I didn’t know they were actually a catering company, too, I thought they were a radio show. Neat!)

  • The Got To Get Got will have a new album out via NoYes Records on July 14th. You can pre-order Sahalee here, and you’ll get a free limited-edition EP for doing so. Score! Right now the album is CD-only, but look for an LP in the fall.
  • Our neighbours at The Dingler got involved in some Twitter-related drama this week involving Ted Leo and the people behind the upcoming Halifax Rock Fest after Ted expressed his nonjoyment of Chickenfoot’s performance on the Conan Show last Friday. I passed out halfway through Patton Oswalt (‘sup, ill-fated attempts at learning to make Manhattans), so I missed it, but Ted said tweeted:
  • And wow – imagine how bad you think Chickenfoot could be, then accept that there are deeper depths of horrible, then turn off your TV… Then stop tweeting and drink and cry yourself to sleep… And maybe punch yourself in the face once or twice to remind you that you’re still alive and human.

  • Free stuff: stream an EP by Moneen, download Aids Wolf‘s tour cassette, download comps from No Idea (Pretend Record) and SubPop (Cybersex). That last one features tracks from Pissed Jeans, Obits, Fleet Foxes, Flight of the Conchords, and ten others. Plus, they’ve mashedup the worst things about today’s internet with the worst things of yesterday’s internet to bring us seizure-inducing gifs of Paris Hilton. Thanks, SubPop!
  • CBC Radio 3 listeners voted and the now-amalgamated-thanks-to-budget-cuts Sirius channel and web stream will feature all-Canadian programming. Yay!
  • All 22 original issues of the Touch and Go zine are being compiled into a single volume. Look for the angriest coffee table book ever sometime in 2010.
  • Operation Ivy: still broken up.
  • Alice in Chains have signed with Virgin and will release their first new album in more than ten years. That one guy in my office who’s always listening to Dirt will probably be so stoked!
  • Finally, here’s Bret Michaels of Poison fracturing his valuable face whilst walking into the set on the Tony Awards last Sunday. The most shocking thing about this clip is that his wig apparently stayed on through the whole thing!

“@HalifaxRockfest Whatever. You know who’s great? North of America, Jale, and Sloan – dig your own backyard, dude!”

“@tedleo Haven’t heard of North of America or Jale, but Sloan is playing with us Aug. 2nd.”

Well, at least Ted Leo hasn’t forgotten about Jale.

That was my favourite part of the exchange. I had to un-follow the rock fest person this morning because I’d reached Satriani saturation or “Satch satch.”

Yeah, you don’t need the Satch satch.

Artists on Vinyl is such a great event – even though I keep getting outbid on my favourite pieces.
