The Clientele – Strange Geometry: The Clientele are a band that makes records you never let go of. This particular one is a middle point for the band, in that it marks the transition between their early 2000s records and their later 2000s ones. Quite perfectly, actually, as it came out in 2005. Since then they’ve developed in the direction this record set out. The difference in sound here is apparent straight away. The hushed reverb haze of their early stuff was replaced by brighter production and more acoustic textures, which are enhanced by strings on some songs. The group incorporated another full-time member after this record, making the string arrangements and added instrumentation a permanent thing, but on this record that was all quite new. This was a different-sounding record, but the Clientele sound itself has always remained pretty unmistakable. Take your pick from their albums, really, they know what they’re doing, and they’re just a fantastic band. Definitely looking forward to their new album due out next month.
