Relevant To Your Interests #025

  • Spotted: Sonic Youth on Gossip Girl. Will Lonely Boy get with Lizzie McGuire? Will S. ever hold a job for more than 24 hours? WTF was the deal with Tyra’s eye makeup last week? Was that smizing? I haven’t seen it yet, so no spoilers, please.
  • I liked this story (via Boing Boing) outlining the hysterical responses to changing technology from evolving incarnations of the entertainment industry over the last 100 years or so. Player pianos spell the end of live music, you guys! I’m not even making that up, they really said that.
  • Last week we told you Pavement would be curating the UK edition of All Tomorrow’s Parties 2010. This week we learned Matt Groening will also be a curator. Can a Sadgasm reunion be far off?
  • Speaking of Pavement, I guess Malkmus is very much in charge and everybody else kind of goes along with whatever he wants? Plus the reunion will be short lived, aannnnd there’ll be no new material. Womp womp.
  • I forgot to post this last week so this may be old news, but Halifax band INSTRUMENTS are playing an all ages show on Saturday in Truro. This is a big deal because they average about two live shows per year. AND they’ve also recorded an EP of Big Black covers under the name King Dick. Har!
  • Heavy Metal Road Show is a new series via featuring scene reports on metal happenings around the world. By the way, I recommend full-screening that shit so you don’t have to have that creepy men’s deodorant ad in your peripheral vision. The one with the guy with the moustache who wants you to practice your “spraying deodorant on things” technique or something? Yeah. DO NOT WANT.
  • Shotgun Jimmie‘s video tour diaries!
  • More from your friends at Street Carnage, here’s an interview with Ian Mackaye. The date isn’t given, but based on the fact that the person in the video is a skinny kid with a lot of head stubble, I’d guess its vintage at near the end of the Minor Threat era. The internet is overrun with Ian Mackaye interviews if you’ve ever gone looking, but I especially like this one because his facial expressions as he’s asked ridiculous questions are worth your time and bandwidth alone.

That interview is on the Minor Threat Live DVD. It was the first TV interview Ian had done or something like that, and he apparently thought it was going to be quite different than it was.

Also, I forgot Lou the cop was in Sadgasm.

I’ve not seen this Minor Threat DVD. Obviously. Was it a Dischord release?

Edit: yes, apparently it is. Well then. Presumably it would be available from the usual grey-market internet suspects…
