Relevant To Your Interests #026

- Details are scant, but it looks like Google is launching a music service, possibly next week, and possibly intended to compete with iTunes. Gizmodo has some early screen shots.
- Pop Matters has an essay outlining the reasons cassette tapes will never see a revival like the one vinyl’s getting. The author is grossly misinformed.
- In related news, the age of the CD is over. Start planning accordingly.
- No one wants to be Peter Criss, not even Peter Criss… now more than ever, because he has breast cancer. Don’t laugh, Shaft had it too.
- Download the remastered version of Nirvana’s “About A Girl,” from the coming Bleach deluxe reissue.
- Mika Miko: broken up.
- 2009 Polaris Prize winners Fucked Up have announced the release of a double LP early in the new year. The album will be a compilation of the band’s extensive catalogue of singles, and will come to you via the good people at Matador.
- Latest unsettling children’s Halloween costume: Riot Grrrl.
- Pitchfork likes the new Russian Circles album.
- Your meals aren’t brutal enough, you need this metal cookbook.
- Dreamy British band Architects played at Gus’ Pub on Tuesday as part of the Halifax Pop Explosion. How do they like the east coast?
It’s like the eastern block of Europe like Boznia or something but without the war… [playing here is] like getting kicked in the face and told you’re an ugly piece of shit over and over again… Metallica must do pretty good around here.
Those Architects guys sound like huge weens. From FB:
“Charlottetown! Thanks for trying, but we won’t be coming back in a rush (ever). lol.”
and from some kid on Alchemy forums who went to the show here:
“They were real drunk, one guitar player was running around in the kitchen and the venue like a moron, the vocalist sang most of the set from what I saw on his back, played sloppy as fuck and were making a big joke out of everything. The vocalist even would hit different effects pedals while the guitarist on stage right would play. Overall just mocking everyone who paid to see them.”
STAND UP CITIZENS
Wow, what a bunch of dicks. I thought the quotes from The Coast could have been out of context or the result of crankiness from being on the road, but it sounds like they’re exactly as arrogant and ungracious as that made them sound.
