  • Ottawa store Legend Records and its owner David Nolan are at the centre of a lawsuit brought on by CRIA, the Canadian equivalent to the American organization which has spent much of the last ten years alienating music fans with its cartoon villainy and policy of suing school children, pensioners and single mothers for literally millions in copyright infringement.

Nolan’s crime was stocking 100 (mostly imported) CDs which were not licenced for sale in Canada. He says he’s pleading guilty because he simply doesn’t have the means to fight the charges. From The Ottawa Sun:

Lawyer Mark Lazarovitz said it was outrageous that his client is being prosecuted when CRIA members, including such names as Sony, EMI and Universal, are the target of a class action lawsuit worth up to $6 billion for allegedly infringing artists’ copyright.

“Yet my client is before the court,” Lazarovitz said.

“I have to have the things the bigger chains don’t have,” Nolan said. “It’s kept my business alive.

  • Speaking of classy, 17-year-old Frances Cobain would rather live with her late father’s family than Courtney Love, so Courtney said a bunch of bitchy things about all of them on Facebook. Latest: now there’s a restraining order, too. Godspeed, young Bean.
  • Old people news: Iggy and the Stooges inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Should I go see them at Kutsher’s next summer? Iggy ain’t gonna live forever, ya know.
  • The Got To Get Got are making a video for “Gettin’ Dirty In the Afterlife.”
  • Are you an old person who has a hard time seeing those tiny names and numbers in your iPhone contacts? Have you yet to figure out that tapping on that thing will make it zoom in on text? Lou Reed’s got an app for that!
  • I played with Lego a lot when I was a kid and I remember one year there was some new “Lego for girls” in the Sears Wishbook. It was all pink and purple and you could build, like, a mall instead of spaceships and medieval castles. I never saw it again and I can’t imagine why it didn’t sell. Anyway, guitars for girls are just as fucking stupid.
  • Here’s The Vice Guide to Ruining Music. Take it from them, they’re the experts. Wokka wokka!
  • Bob Pollard (he of Guided By Voices and The Devil Went Home and Puked on DVD) recently showed up at a GBV tribute night in Ohio where he reportedly got screaming drunk and told one of the performers, “You can play me in the Guided By Voices movie.” What’s that word for when something’s so awkward it’s hilarious?
  • Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth unite to destroy parts of Europe next summer.
  • The Thrush Hermit reunion is on!

I hope it is not wrong but I still want to be buds with Courtney Love. Frances seems like kind of a twat.

I like them both and just want everybody to be SANE. Frances seems to me like a snotty teenager, but whatevz. Spending some time in rural Washington state will probably do her good.
