Rockets Red Glare – Red Shift/Halifax 45

January 15, 2010

In honour of Rockets Red Glare reuniting for the Blue Skies Turn Black tenth anniversary shows, we’ve got the band’s debut record this week. Released on the Toronto-based Die! Venom label in 1999 (or possibly 2000) – edit: 2001 – it was the first of three records the group made before splitting up in 2003. These two songs never appeared anywhere else and showcased a somewhat more direct, explosive side of the band than the longer, more dynamic songs on the LPs.

We’re still unsure as to this record’s current availability, as some of the Die! Venom releases are now available over at The Blue House site, but this one doesn’t seem to be among them. It’d be a real shame if this amazing little record is no longer in print anywhere. Anyway, enjoy, and look out for more Rockets Red Glare content here on Gunshy in the very near future.

The liner notes say this was recorded in 2001. Actually it says, “200I” which I interpret to mean 2001.
