As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Malcolm McLaren died earlier this week. There’s much being said about him, but this post isn’t going to get into anything of that sort, as McLaren was one of the more complicated figures of the mass media age and there’s a whole lot to say. Like him or not, or even understand him or not, the fact remains that popular music discourse would be a very different thing if it weren’t for him.
