Dirty Poles #005 – Celestial City

September 7, 2010

We here at Team Gunshy are proud to announce a series of shows we’ve organised with our friends at Gallery Connexion.

Sometimes Fredericton feels like a cultural wasteland of torpid suburbia, shitty transit service, bands in bars all sounding the same, corporate media interests masquerading as an alternative voice, and plenty of small-town conservatism. But, this sleepy university town has an often-overlooked history of underground art, and we’re doing our part to continue that history with The Celestial City Art and Culture Festival.

We’ve got an exclusive documentary screening, a local cassette release party, sweet punk rock sounds from Moncton, noisy pals making the journey from Saint John and Halifax, and new visual art courtesy of Yo Rodeo, who are on tour from St John’s to Toronto. All the events are happening at Gallery Connexion – 440 York Street – and everything is open to people of all ages, with a cash bar for folks with ID.

We’re excited, and we hope to see you out! Check out the full schedule of events after the jump, and for more information: -or- celestialcityfest(at)gmail(dot)com

Wednesday, September 15th – Film Screening: No Fun City (RSVP)

As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, No Fun City is an independent documentary about the intersection of art, poverty, politics, and the law in Vancouver’s downtown east side. It includes appearances from DOA, Skinny Puppy, Shearing Pinx, Japandroids, SNFU, Sex Negatives, and lots of other worthwhile Vancouver bands. This screening is part of the film’s Canadian tour, which will be followed by overseas screenings later in the fall.
