Records of Note — November, 2010

November 2, 2010

As the 2010 begins winding down and we all cringe in horror at the encroaching Holiday Season: Two-Kay-Ten Edition, it seems like this year has been shit for new releases. Almost everybody’s been phoning it as evidenced by this year’s release schedule, heavy with remixes, deluxe reissues, live albums, and greatest hits collections. All that half-assing aside, I’ve been mentally working on a “best of new music” post since January, and I can seriously only think of four albums that came out in 2010 which I liked well enough to listen to more than a handful of times before setting them aside thinking something along the lines of, “It’s not horrible, but ugh, really?” So anyway, let’s continue piling it on! Two more Weezer things for people to buy? Sure. Why not.

Speaking of heaps of unmitigated garbage, the (undoubtedly well-meaning) people who brought you Record Store Day are also now encouraging you to visit your local independent music retailer on Black Friday (November 26th this year) to purchase exclusive releases by U2, Metallica, and George Harrison. Go fuck yourself, record industry! PS: it’s kind of hilarious how Billboard Magazine has a “.biz” domain, isn’t it? Anyway, every day is Record Store Day in my heart. Or it would be, if someone would just put something out worth picking up. FRIG.

I haven’t. I saw them at Sappyfest and thought they were alright, so I should probably have a listen. Thanks for the reminder.
