Show Hype: The Famines + Sheer Heart Attack // 11/11/10

November 8, 2010

I’d intended to do a belated rundown of what I saw/heard at the Halifax Pop Explosion, but it’s just too belated at this point.  That’s not to say that there weren’t a lot of bands that left a lasting impression in my mind.  That list’s pretty long, actually, and includes (but isn’t limited to) the likes of Bloodhouse, Ty Segall, Bad Vibrations, So Cow, the new two-piece Dog Day, Fuck Montreal, previous concert faves like Mess Folk and the Meat Curtains, and it was all punctuated by the City of Champions’ two-piece garage rockers, the Famines, who wrapped up the final night’s Scotch Tapes Showcase with a sweaty, blistering set of some of the most energetic rock ‘n’ roll you’ll ever see.

And on Thursday, November 11 (yes, Remembrance Day), we’re giving the Fredericton live-music-going public a chance to see the Famines for themselves at Gallery Connexion.  (I can’t explain the logistics of how two gents that call Edmonton and Montreal home can play the east coast in late-October, then return for a full swing – including four New Brunswick shows – two weeks later, but… they’re warriors, apparently).

Here’s a little sampling of what the Famines look and sound like:

Joining the Famines on Thursday will be new local rock ‘n’ rollers Sheer Heart Attack.  This will be their third show in a three-week span, after recent gigs opening for the Burning Love and E.I.  There’s no embeddable videos, but their members have done time in E.I., the Adults, Spaceblood, Hard Charger, Iron Fist, and Abolishit, so if you’ve been to a punk show in Fredericton this millennium, chances are you’re familiar with their previous outfits.  Their live set apparently includes Devo, Queen, and the Spits covers.  For real.

So, please, go to this.  Here are the particulars:

Gallery Connexion (440 York Street).  Thursday, November 11.  Doors at 8:00, bands at 9:00 sharp.  All ages, wet/dry.  $5.00.  See the Facebook event listing for further details.
