Hey, I put out a tape for you to buy.

December 8, 2010

Apologies for the blatant self-promotion, but Hamburger Tapes (this is me) put out a tape by the Strawmen.  It’s called Loud & Mean at the Aberdeen, and I want to tell you about it.

Recorded July 19th, 2009, during the band’s spot opening for King Khan & BBQ Show (not “King Condom”) at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre, it features 11 blistering country-/garage-punk blasts, including all three songs from their killer single on Foul & Fair Records (“Jack Rabbit,” “Red Barn,” and the Compulsive Gamblers’ “Sour and Vicious Man”), Gabriel Hart and Gun Club covers, and some songs you’ve never heard before. Their tightest set to date, says lead Strawman Tom Martin, which is saying something because I’ve seen ’em a bunch of times and they’ve always been the business. Soundboard recording, it sounds perfect.

The seldom-updated Hamburger MySpace page and the way-too-updated Hamburger Tapes Facebook page (which you should click “Like” on) have “Jack Rabbit” from the tape. The Strawmen’s MySpace has “Death Country” (as written by Gabriel Hart). Check those. And here’s a YouTube video that was recorded at the same show:

The tape is limited to 100 copies. It’s black. It looks classy.

You can get it at the Strawmen’s upcoming shows (Dec. 10 at Coconut Grove in Halifax with Liquid Vapours, Beaten Hearts, and Fat Stupids / Dec. 11 at Plan B in Moncton with them same Vapours and Hearts); fine record stores in Fredericton and Saint John and Moncton; or by sending some PayPal duckets ($7.00 ppd in North America; outside of North America or if you’re sans PayPal, email first) to macintosh.industries (at) gmail.com.
