Pissed Jeans – King of Jeans
Pissed Jeans – King of Jeans [SubPop, 2009]
This won’t be available at your favourite music retailer for another week and a half, but I have the internet and access to a good private tracker, so.
Pissed Jeans are able to successfully straddle the line between being a punk band and a sludgy stoner rock band. Like, their fast songs have little in common with their slow songs. Therefore, let x = {Pissed Jeans The Punk Band}, and let y = {Pissed Jeans The Sludge Band}.
x sounds like what the Jesus Lizard would sound like if they were a strange punk band instead of a strange rock band. If that makes any sense. Fast, twangy, reverb-laden guitar solos remind me of the Dead Kennedys, but then the whole band will come back in, all, “dun-dun-DUN” with a power chord throwdown. Deeeeeelightful.
y comprises the bulk of this record. I hear echos of the Melvins’ Stoner Witch album, meaning it’s heavy and slow, but there’s still a strong semblance of melody. Some songs are musically sparse, putting the lyrics on stark display. This strategy mostly works.
Anyway. I encourage you to purchase this record as I am going to do. However, I do not encourage you to do a Google image search for the term “pissed jeans.”
For fans of: bands with a near-swear in the name; bitchin’ song titles (ie: “Human Upskirt” and “Pleasure Race”); bellowing
I think that kid just to the left of the drummer’s head (in black) is wearing a Void shirt.
Ha! Good eye, I didn’t even notice.
Nice sound, never heard of em but seems like I have to ;)
I like the fat kid in the background, remains me on me in younger years
